ELO is pleased to announce that the ELO Oxford Leadership Program will include a panel discussion chaired by Dr. Richard (Rick) J. Goossen, Chairman, ELO Network, on “AI as a Tool for Organizational and Societal Leadership” including John Lennox, Andy Hughes, and Clark Cully.
Business leaders need to understand how to harness the benefits of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to become more efficient and impactful in organizations and in society. AI is, in many cases, a tool for humans to perform a task more efficiently. Likewise, in a church context, AI can be used for greater effectiveness. Leaders need to be equipped to understand AI to enhance their leadership abilities—if not, they will fall behind those who do. How to use AI responsibly? What are the risks? This panel will explore what leaders need to know about AI and discuss ethical AI use from a Christian perspective.
Dr. John C. Lennox is Professor Emeritus at the University of Oxford and author of many books, including 2084 and the AI Revolution, Updated and Expanded Edition: How Artificial Intelligence Informs Our Future. He is an internationally renowned speaker on the interface of science, philosophy and religion. He regularly teaches at many academic institutions, is Senior Fellow with the Trinity Forum and has written a series of books exploring the relationship between science and Christianity. John Lennox will talk about AI and the future of humanity. He will cover the following issues: key questions; narrow artificial intelligence; general artificial intelligence; the origin of the human moral sense; and the true homo deus.
Our second panelist is Dr. Andy Hughes, Dean of the DeVoe School of Business, Technology and Leadership at Indiana Wesleyan University, one of the world’s most innovative Christian universities. Dr. Hughes was previously Chief Innovation Officer and Senior Vice President of Automotive/Member Experience, AAA Hoosier Motor Club. Dr. Hughes holds a DBA from Indiana Wesleyan University, a Master of Organizational Leadership from Olivet Nazarene University and a BS in Organizational Management from the University of Arizona Global. Dr. Hughes is an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene and currently serves the Indianapolis District of the Nazarene Church as a strategy consultant.
Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) has been a pioneer in online Christian education and the IWU DeVoe School of Business, Technology & Leadership now includes nearly 6,000 students from across the United States and countries around the world. Dr. Hughes has been the driving force behind IWU’s recently launched Executive MBA (EMBA) program, which prepares experienced leaders to drive AI-powered transformation. Dr. Hughes noted that “Successful executives must be equipped with more than just theoretical knowledge — they need practical, real-world experience, the ability to lead change, and expertise in leveraging AI for organizational success.” Dr. Hughes added, “This EMBAi program was designed with industry feedback at its core, ensuring our graduates are prepared for the challenges of tomorrow.”
The third panelist is Dr. Clark Cully, IWU’s Technology Division Chair, who oversees degree programs in data analytics, AI, information technology, and cybersecurity. Previously, Dr. Cully served as the Chief Data Officer in the US Department of Defense, responsible for data and AI policy for over three million people in the military. Over his 14 years at the Pentagon, he served as a decorated leader for numerous nuclear, cyber, innovation, and information technology initiatives. Dr. Cully held additional security and technology roles across the federal government and Congress. Dr. Cully holds a Ph.D. in high-energy physics from the University of Michigan and is an alumnus of Calvin University.
